The main premise is how he, an old-school guy, sees everything that happens right n David's talk show appearances used to make me laugh and cry like crazy. The main premise is how he, an old-school guy, sees everything that happens right now.
He mentions how pointless Instagram is, how girls know nothing about classic rock and so on. But instead of making these comparisons, he just tells random stories from his life. So random that I think that these are the stories he practices for his routines. Maybe even the ones that he had to cut from his usual stand up set. On the other hand, I loved his honesty, he touched on some pretty heavy subjects that could easily earn him a 'what a scumbag! He mentions how disgusting his fans can be, how he doesn't like to give money to homeless people, how lazy he is to participate in charity events if they are not in his neighborhood.
He even talks about Nicole Kidman and her hairy legs! No matter how many aspects of this book I didn't love, I still think that David Spade is such a good guy.
How many people can pull that off after they ramble about gruesome details of unsuccessful erection? Jul 20, Donna rated it really liked it. Well, this made for some interesting "listening"! I am glad I thought to grab my earbuds before my year-old grandson and I hit the road this morning I will admit that I am not exactly familiar with David Spade's career as a comedian and an actor, but I found his stories in this book to be entertaining and in some cases I am sure that I now know way more about porn that I will ever h Well, this made for some interesting "listening"!
I am sure that I now know way more about porn that I will ever have a need for! I may not jump on YouTube to check out Mr. Spade's past work, but I will probably see if I can get my hands on a copy of his first book Loved all the Chris Farley memories!
Nov 28, Sara rated it liked it. Not to say David is not Intelligent or insightful. I picked this up for the humor. I was expecting and wanting his type of humor. I was not disappointed. But he also touches on topics that are sensitive, and he does it in a great way. For example, talking about women in Hollywood; the struggles they go through, and also the issues they C 3. I felt like I was out to dinner with David and we were having a casual conversation.
I listened on Audible which is a great way to enjoy this book. If you have a good sense of humor, aren't easily offended, and want a fun book to listen to After reading this, I feel that David is an Intelligent man who plays the role Hollywood has cast him in, even though there is more to him.

But soon after starting it, I realized it was too good for a perfunctory listen, and that it required full attention. In the piece, David Spade riffs on a number of topics, from personal experiences growing up, to his celebrity status and interaction with his fans.
He cleverly addresses a number of culturally significant issues, disguising them as comedy bits. But it's actu I was looking for something I could sort of half-listen to during my admin day at work, and this seemed like a good choice. But it's actually pretty hilarious. It takes a couple of chapters to get the feel for his narrative style, but once it clicks it becomes a funny and addictive comedic memoir.
I'll be buying his other book soon. Jan 26, Jessica rated it it was ok. I really wanted to give Spade the benefit of the doubt, but he just seems to not have any deep self-awareness at all. But then he only tells stories of dating younger women, and generalises them as bimbo air heads. Sep 26, Tally rated it really liked it Shelves: audible-library. Starts strong, somewhat crude then boring in the middle, and finishes with a great Epilogue.
I love David Spade and this was basically like listening to a stand-up but no audience. Lots of laughs, just skip through the boring chapters since they don't need to be heard in a sequential order. Jul 13, Michael Dault rated it it was amazing Shelves: comedy. I want David Spade to do more of these kind of books. This was an absolute riot to read. I had to keep replaying certain chapters because I wanted to hear it again and laugh until my stomach hurt. I finished the entire thing in 2 days during a road trip.
Nov 15, Randy Vollrath rated it really liked it. It's very funny! You have to listen to it on Audible literally you can't get it in book version and that's for the best. It's basically David Spade talking about stuff for hours and it's all thoroughly entertaining. If you want something light and funny, check this book out. I totally get his humor. I laughed out loud quite a few times during this book. To me this book wasn't quite as good as his first book but it was still very funny and I learned a little more about him.
Jun 12, Amanda rated it really liked it Shelves: corporeal , comedy , book-riot-read-harder Typical David Spade Very funny. Kinda vulgar in parts. I enjoyed it, like listening to a comedy special. Not as interesting and entertaining as his previous book. This one starts off strong and then goes downhill. Not necessarily worth the listen. Nov 05, Leslie McWilliams Marcy added it. By: Amy Poehler. Fifty-something David Spade is letting it all hang out.
This was entertaining but he kind of gets a little gross in parts the porno parts. Could've done without that. But other than that. Narration is great, love the sound effects.
Honest and funny tho a little too pube centric. I love Spade. Saw him with Dennis Miller a few months ago. But this "book" is virtually his entire album, which is available on Spotify. Don't waste a credit. While a bit raunchy at times, this book is worth the price and the listen. Thanks David Spade!! I find myself looking forward to head to the car for work just so I can listen to it.
Lots of great comics out there- add a voracious online appetite that will swallow 10 years of material in a 45 min.
Some have done it, always with a unique personality- able to overcome tarnishing time with its constantly new and shifting difficulty levels Pat Flynn Nashville, TN. A great performance of a story that is both funny and touching by a guy who far more decent and thoughtful than his public persona. A lot of this book is geared at relating more towards those who aren't growing up in this "social media world".
However, I'm in my twenties, and I grew up loving David Spade's comedy, so I wanted to give it a try anyway. I am so glad I did. There was a lot that was still very relatable.
He's an amazing story teller in this. I don't laugh out loud at much, but I really did at this, making myself look like a complete idiot many times. I would listen to him ramble like he did in this book for hours more!
There are definitely some raunchy parts, but still hilarious. Such a well thought through look at his life. He seems too old to have such childish humor. I'm a humor and comedy fan, but I can't say I enjoyed this book. Couldn't even finish it. Sorry David. I couldn't get past chapter 3. WAS a fan this was time I won't get back. Took it as my free first membership to audible Stopped listening at chapter 7.
Couldn't bear the anti-women, egotistical ranting. It was not for me. I started feeling sorry for him, which is not good! Even if this book is actually supposed to be a comedic performance, it is now outdated and really not that funny.
Like sitting on a train and the bloke in the seat behind you is just talking for the sake of talking to someone who never says anything in reply. At some point you will move to another carriage. I was surprised to hear repitition of the same lame gags throughout. Ultimately, he bangs on about not being like the characters he portrays while simultaneously, telling stories where he is actually that guy IRL. Don't buy! David Spade is a great raconteur, so funny and self-deprecating, and occasionally highly inappropriate.
I have heard quite a few of these stories before but it was such a fun six hours with this great comedian, it definitely left me wanting more. So fucking funny. Loved it!!! What do I do with my life now? Need more of this shiiiiz. Excellent entertainment from start to finish. Really struggled to finish it. Found it irritating. Didn't enjoy this at all. A struggle to lhave any respect for the author.
I love this book, but I must get back to my thirty something life which I feel better about now. Spade brings his classic humour to his autobiography which leaves you feeling horribly sorry for him but chuckling all the while. Enjoyed the listen. A few parts not so great the complaints but the bulk was quality and well worth the time! Felt like I was on the phone with my old friend David Spade and he was telling me stories and encounters of his celebrity life. It felt natural, organic, his side notes were great.
Bonus outtakes at the end. I was having Rules of Engagement withdrawal symptoms. This audio book was a welcome relief. Loved it. And being Generation X just - a young X , I could relate to so much of it. Love David Spade. Then ironically married a David who looks like him, is around his age and is almost as funny.
Thanks for putting this audio book together for us, David. It was an absolute joy. David Spade never fails to make me laugh my ass off. He's an absolute legend. Six hours of David Spade talking about his views on life, intertwined into chapters about his career in Hollywood, experience in dating and giving us the occasional sound effect impression, makes for a very entertaining audio book.
Added bonus if you are a fan of Emperor's New Groove, as its exactly like listening to an MA rated Kuzco reading a biography out aloud. There is one chapter that is very visuals concerning sexual subjects. I think he is opting for some shock worth which he does not require … amusing adequate the method it is , yet be warned. Generally, the remainder of the publication has plenty of stories most of us can connect to growing up in the USA while period he speaks about-.
I appreciated having the sound style due to the fact that I was able to pay attention to guide while taking place short trips. Simply be cautioned once more. Many thanks, David. I take pleasure in getting hit in the head occasionally with a hard plastic instance. I believe you reach see a different side of David Spade. This book is a lot more like David is simply talking with you instead then reading a publication. This was just one of the funniest publications I have actually paid attention to, rather perhaps ever.
I have actually constantly loved David Spade, and I actually such as to see him radiate on his own right here.
